IPTV allows TV programme to be streamed, that is downloaded or played live, through an internet connection, quite simply a broadband line with high bandwidth.

VOD or Video on Demand is the most popular form of IPTV, a viewer simply selects a TV programme or a movie, pays for it online and watches it.

Several small and big IPTV companies have cropped up in the last few years, the biggest of them  - Netflix -  also available in India now (Netflix.in), uses internet technology to deliver TV programmes straight into TV, desktops and laptops, and even mobile phones of its subscribers.

IPTV companies often apply user behavioural techniques to gauge TV viewing preferences of its subscribers in order to give a ‘personalized’ TV experience.
